Getting on with Economic ASEAN Community (MEA), 2342 Participants Took Part in a National Seminar
Some 2342 participants took part in a national seminar with the theme ‘Maximizing Active Learning and Character Building to Improve National Human Resource Competitiveness’ organized by a joint team of Guidance and Counseling (BK) and Elementary Education (PGSD) Departments of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FKIP) University of Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta.
The event, which was managed together with Active Learning Facilitator Association (ALFA) Yogyakarta Special Province and Central Java Chapter is expected to become a part of preparation to welcome an open era of MEA.
‘We need to prepare our students as early as possible in relation to MEA era. We hope that this event bring new spirit, motivation and furthermore it can inspire us to welcome MEA,’ said Dra. Sri Tutu Martaningsih, M.Pd the committee chairperson in the opening speech.
UAD rector Dr. Kasiyarno, M.Hum added that this kind of event is very relevant for Indonesians for character building is necessary in the era. this is due to challenge information era, where moral degradation becomes prevalent as indicated by moral hazards such as sodomy and narcotics cases as well as hedonism life style.
‘Everything returns to character building the thing which Islam put its high priority stated as akhlaqul karimah – humane personality. Man without this character leads to destruction,’ he said before 104 presenters from various higher institutions.
Being a keynote speaker at the seminar, Prof. Uman Suherman A.S., M.Pd. a UPI Bandung Guidance and Counseling lecturer described strategies to maximize the role of counselors in MEA era.
Meanwhile, the implementation of character building through active learning in theory and practice was presented by the second invited speaker was Prof. Dr. Sukarno, M.Si the dean of Education Faculty, Tidar University, Magelang, who is also the president of ALFA chapter
The event was completed by Dr. Muqowim, M.Ag. a lecturer of Islamic State University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta presenting how to prepare ourselves with Islamic values inaccordance to MEA.
