National Seminar on Islam and the Development of Science

Ahmad Dahlan Student Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) or Persada of Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) in cooperation with Indonesian Muslim Lecturer (DMI) held a national seminar entitled "Islam and the Development of Science". The event was held in the auditorium of Ahmad Dahlan Mosque, Islamic Center of Campus 4 area on Jln. Ringroad Selatan, Tamanan, Bantul, Yogyakarta on Saturday (24/2/2018).

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Muchlas, M.T., Vice Rector I, in his speech expressed his expectation that the speakers could give enlightenment and add insight about Islam, especially for students. On the other hand, he also explained that Muhammadiyah has a developed Islamic view, that there is a synergy between Islam and science.

"From this seminar, hopefully there will be many ideas and proposals to make Islam rahmatan lil alamin reflected in everyday life, especially in terms of science," he said.

This event invited Dr. Hamid Fahmi Zarkaysi, M.Phil., From UNIDA Gontor and Agus Purwanto, D.Sc., from ITS Surabaya. Both are experts in the field of Islam and science.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of DMI, Dr. Fredy Kurniawan M.Sc., stated that this event which embraced UAD was a real move made by DMI after being established in 2017. From the explanation, there are various activities to be held such as workshops, seminars, and discussions related to the work of Muslim lecturers. The purpose of these activities is to give people knowledge and so that they can implement it in real life. (Ard)
