UAD Establishes a Boarding School in Sambas

After establishing Wonosobo MIM lab school in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) is now preparing to present boarding school in Sambas, West Kalimantan. The education sector is one of the main developmental focuses for UAD.

Dr. Kasiyarno, M.Hum., the UAD Rector, said that the pesantren-based school (Islamic boarding school) in Sambas focuses on junior high school and vocational education.

"The boarding school is utilized as UAD laboratory. We provide infrastructural and human resources (HR) supports," he said when interviewed in his office on Monday (14/05/2018).

He further explained that the construction of this school is in line with the new school unit program (USB) proclaimed by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia. The land used for the construction of the school is 15 hectares, which is a part of Wakaf (endowment for religious purposes).

"The building is targeted to be completed by the end of the year, so that next year we can already accept new students," explained Kasiyarno.

The school construction plan started from UAD Student Study Service (KKN) program. After sending KKN students in Sambas for four periods, UAD decided to provide educational facilities there.

According to him, the decision taken is a response to the request made by the people who need educational facilities in Sambas. In addition to responding to the needs of the local community, Kasiyarno is optimistic that UAD boarding school has the potential to attract students from various regions in Indonesia. (doc / ard)
