UAD PSMPB Holds Psychosocial Training

Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Study Center (PSMPB) of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) held basic psychosocial training for student volunteers at the Islamic Center hall of UAD campus 4 on Jln. Ring Road Selatan, Tamanan, Banguntapan, Bantul, on Saturday (1-12-2018). This training presented Budi Santosa, S.Psi., who is the Chairperson of Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness (PRBK) division of Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), as the speaker.

Dholina Inang Pambudi, M.Pd., the Head of UAD PSMPB, said that the activity, which was attended by 50 participants, aimed to provide understanding and basic knowledge about the principles and stages of first-aid psychology in a disaster-affected area. Moreover, the most important thing is that UAD volunteers have the skills and capacity and are ready to be deployed to the field.

"We hope that UAD volunteers apply their knowledge on disaster when they go to disaster-affected locations. As volunteers, they are expected not to build boundaries with the people as they must be able to blend in with affected residents. They also have to blend in with other volunteers," explained Dholina.

On the other hand, Budi said that psychosocial skills were also important to provide assistance to children and residents who were psychologically affected. "When a disaster occurs, the children affected are allowed to be sad. However, on the next day, they have to be cheerful again."

The psychosocial impacts of natural disasters include physiology, feelings, thoughts, behavior, and social relations. Factors affecting psychological vulnerability are personality, gender and age, type of disaster, severity of the disaster, previous experience, network availability, and social support.

"Psychosocial activities at each post-disaster stage are the emergency response phase, the initial and final recovery phase, and the reconstruction phase. Volunteers must be able to reduce unpleasant feelings in children, foster their enthusiasm, and bring children back to the routine. They also need to describe psychosocial support plan in learning."(Ard)

UAD Hosts Chess Competition of POMDA DIY 2018

Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) hosted the chess branch competition of the Regional Student Sports Week (POMDA) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) in 2018. A total of 43 chess athletes from 16 public and private universities participated in this event with 30 male and 13 female participants.

The Vice Rector III of UAD for Alumni Empowerment and Student Development Division, Dr. Abdul Fadlil, M.T., in his remarks said that chess was a special sport that uses the brain. It is because to win a match you need a well-thought-out strategy.

"The ability to set a strategy to win a match or competition is needed by the millennial generation. In addition, this POMDA is expected to be able to bring up chess players who will be sent to the National Student Sports Week," said Fadlil.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Committee for POMDA DIY for Chess Branch, Dr. Dedi Pramono, M. Hum., revealed that the number of universities participating in the chess competition of POMDA was very small compared to the total universities in Yogyakarta which amounted to more than 110.

"In the future, it needs to be improved so that there will be more participants. The sporting competition is a medium for public and private university students to compete," he explained.

Furthermore, Dedi said that UAD dared to become a host even though it did not yet have a Chess Student Activity Unit (UKM). This aims to encourage students to have the enthusiasm to take part in various forms and diverse branches of sport. It is similar to what happened a while ago when UAD students won gold and silver medals in Kempo championship while Kempo UKM was not founded yet in UAD.

On the other hand, Jumaryanto, the match referee, said that participants who were allowed to participate in the 2018 DIY POMDA were students of universities that were already members of Student Training Board (BAPOMI) of Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). It is because if you are qualified for the national event, you will advance in the name of DIY BAPOMI, not the university.

The universities participating in the chess competition of POMDA included UAD, Universitas Kristen Immanuel (UKRIM), Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Nasional (STTNas), Universitas Widya Mataram (UWM), Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB), Politeknik LPP, Stikes Bethesda Yakkum, Akademi Pertanian Yogyakarta, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga, Akademi Keperawatan (AKPER) Notokusumo, Akademi Perindustrian, Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi (STIE) YKPN, and STIMIK Akakom. Creating Hepatitis B Medication, UAD Students Become the Winner of National LKTIM

Three students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) won the first place in the Student Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIM) with a theme of "Chemistry in Festival" at Universitas Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on November 22−25, 2018. The three students were Desty Restia Rahmawati, Diar Winanti, and Riska Nurkhasanah who managed to innovate Hepatitis B drugs from noni fruit and meniran herbal plant.

Desty, the team leader explained that noni fruit contains scolopetin compounds which are very effective as anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic elements. Meanwhile, the roots and leaves of meniran are rich in flavonoids which are very high anti-bacterial elements. And then, with a touch of nanotechnology, the particles are made smaller that can deliver drugs to sick cells. In addition, this drug does not damage healthy cells.

The team prepares for competition by looking for materials in journals and several other references about noni fruit and meniran herbal plant. The proposal was prepared to combine the two ingredients for Hepatitis B therapy. In addition, Desty and the team improved the capacity percentage and made a prototype.

The proposal submitted was titled "Moraphy: Prospect of Combination of Noni (Morinda citrifolia) and Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) with Nanoencapsulation Formula Based on Chitosan and Pectin as Targeted Drug Delivery System Strategic Innovation for Promising Hepatitis B Therapy".

"At the selection stage, there were a total of 86 teams who submitted proposals. Each team consists of three students from 30 universities throughout Indonesia," explained Desty at UAD Campus 1 on Friday (11-30-2018) while accompanied by Danang Sukantar, M.Pd., the Head of Student Affairs Management and Development Division of Bimawa and Dr. Hari Susanti, M.Si., Apt., the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of UAD. The team was under the guidance of Siti Fatmawati Fatimah, M.Sc., Apt.

In the final stage, there were 15 proposals from 11 universities that were selected. For this innovative work, the UAD team managed to exceed the team from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) who placed second and Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret (UNS) as the third winner. Meanwhile, Institut Teknologi Surabaya (ITS) placed first for the appreciation award, while UNS placed second.

Hari Susanti said that the Faculty of Pharmacy and the university would provide further research facilities for students to develop their talents and potential, even until pre-clinical and clinical testing was carried out and for it to be patented. (ard)

Dosen UAD Terbitkan Kamus Padanan Asing-Indonesia Pertama

(ard)

UAD Students Win 1st Place at Karya Cipta Mahasiswa of PKM-PTKIS

Students from the Faculty of Education and Islamic Studies (FAI) of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) won the first place at Karya Cipta Mahasiswa competition. This competition was included in Student Creativity Program (PKM) of Private Islamic Universities (PTKIS), which was held at UMY on November 21-23, 2018.

UAD sent two teams to the competition branch, and all of them from were FAI. One other group managed to be 2nd place winner. "This achievement is thanks to Allah, so that we can make UAD proud," said Irmawati Wardani, the team leader.

From her statement, the team preparation to take part in PKM-PTKIS competition was not optimum because they only had limited time. However, continued Irma, the dean and lecturers at FAI always supported and motivated them, so they could get the best results.

"We are not burdened with the target of being the champion. It's just that we do everything as well as possible with the support of lecturers and friends. The obstacle we experienced was the difficulty in finding personnel to take part in the competition. The reason for it is the availability, willingness, and ability. Furthermore, we only had limited time to prepare for the competition," she explained.

The work created by Irma, Khoirul Adzim, Angga Putrawan, and Hengki Kurniawan is an Islamic song entitled Kembali pada-Nya or Return to Him. The creation of this song was inspired by the natural disasters, accidents, and other events which happened to our brothers and sisters in Indonesia not too long ago, indicating that everything will, indeed, return to Allah SWT.

"While we practiced and created the work, we were guided and accompanied by Mrs. Ferawati. She always reminded us to be passionate and to concentrate on the work. In the last practice, we were also guided by Mrs. Janah from Bimawa of UAD. We are very grateful for the guidance provided," explained Irma. (ard)

UAD Tuan Rumah POMDA Catur DIY 2018

Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) menjadi tuan rumah penyelenggara Pekan Olahraga Mahasiswa Daerah (POMDA) Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) 2018 cabang catur.

Perlombaan olahraga menjadi ajang kompetisi antarmahasiswa perguruan tinggi negeri maupun swasta,” terangnya.
